I posted this a while back on Meta Naito. Now I will share it with you lot. Let me know if you have any questions about it, or info that might contradict it.
Keep in mind that this applies only to Kirby as he appears in the main canon of games:
Keep in mind that this applies only to Kirby as he appears in the main canon of games:
As most of us know, Kirby first appeared by rolling into Dream Land from parts unknown. At first, he was unable to copy abilities, but over time, his power grew. With each subsequent adventure, Kirby was able to perform more and more potent and intricate attacks, and by the time of Planet Robobot, that power had practically become infinite in scope.
I can't be the only one to notice that, barring the occasional spin-off, Kirby tends to become more potent (and also possibly more pink) with each game. First it was basic Copy Abilities, then the more intricate attacks that came along with Super Star, then the Super Abilities, then Hypernova, and in Planet Robobot, the ability to merge the Robobot Armor with these abilities as well.
What's more, it seems that Kirby's primary purpose is to defend his homeworld of Pop Star, eating as much as he can in the process. Additionally, as he grows more powerful, more and more dangerous cosmic invaders are drawn to try and destroy him. Exclamation
Why would this be? Will Kirby eventually burst in a supernova that engulfs the whole universe? Well, perhaps not.
Now for the actual theory:
A great long time ago (maybe), Pop Star was formed. On its surface, numerous creatures grew and prospered. Kingdoms rose and fell, but had little consequence. Along with the Waddle Dees, Bronto Burts, Scarfies and more, a particular species of beings appeared. They were the Batamon.
(can't have a good Kirby Theory without the Batamon)
Much like Waddle Dees, most Batamon were weak, and had little means to defend themselves. Unlike Waddle Dees, however, they were not great in number, so to survive, they had to spend most of their time in hiding. However, some of these Batamon were more potent than others. One in particular could have, for instance, decided to take up swordplay and eventually start an order of knights. (read -> MK)
Although the Batamon were born of Pop Star, it seemed that none of them could adequately defend it, or defend themselves from outside forces. Eventually they came under the dominion of the Waddle Dees, and their king, Dedede. Dedede, being the glutton that he is, then ordered his lackeys to steal all the food from the Batamon in their village for himself.
Then one day, on a spring breeze, a particular Batamon was carried into the kingdom, with a peculiar talent, and a voracious appetite...
While most Batamon were simple creatures, thinking of little more than survival, some (read -> MK) understood that one day, a chosen one among their kind would appear. A chosen one who could ride the Warp Star without training, and place the Sparkling Stars back into the sky where they belonged. Chosen by who, you may ask?
I contend that the planet Pop Star is not without a life of its own. Its energy radiates outward, in its healthy yellow glow and its rings, and this is what affords its great fertility. While all of its denizens have a right to call Pop Star their home, the Batamon are the planet's primary children. One of these children in particular is born to be the legacy child, the one that defends its parent, and, eventually, much like the Hungry Lumas in Super Mario Galaxy, becomes a planet in its own right.
That chosen child of course, is Kirby.
This planetary lineage is not without its enemies or predators, however. Numerous times, great cosmic forces have come to either destroy Kirby, sap Pop Star's energy, or do both. Every time, Kirby has had to fend these forces off (with the aid of other privy Batamon like MK). As with everything, however, Pop Star will eventually fall. When that day arrives, it will be up to Kirby to release everything he has eaten, and in the process, form a new world. That world will eventually give rise to new Batamon, and another Kirby-like figure to defend it. This cycle will continue for as long as it possibly can.
Well that's my basic theory.
To sum up: Kirby is a particular type of Batamon with the ability to eat indefinitely. He is also an infant world who will eventually succeed his parent Pop Star and become a new planet one day, when Pop Star is destroyed.
Naturally, there are a lot of other variables to consider, so if you have any questions about the theory, please ask. I will see if I can fit that information into the framework, and if I can't, then I'll have to change the theory itself.
Hope it was entertaining at least. Colon three.
